Description
“Artwork story: ouma rina.
This print is very close to my heart. My late grandparents on my mother’s side were heavyweight creatives. My grandfather was a dance instructor with his own dance school & my grandmother was (his dance partner) a seamstress.
She made clothes for boutiques, the odd wedding dress & incredibly intricate lace underwear.
She loved working with her hands & I often sat & watched them as they worked on a hand-embroidered piece. A botanical piece, of course. She loved the ocean, she loved drinking black tea from fine china. She loved me.
Back in the early 90s, she had by then collected piles of those old thick, yellow telephone books. She used them to press flowers in. Flowers she either planted herself, or snagged them in passing on a stroll.
These used here, we picked together. She loved bougainvilla & had ample arch over her garden entrance. She loved lobelias & hydrangeas’ she loved pansies & poppies & any delicate leafy twig she could find to put into the fold.
I could write volumes on her, and maybe I will one day. But until then, this communicates more of her than I can do justice in words.
I made the layout using our dried flowers, and then had them printed for you to enjoy too.
An ageless beauty & the timeless capture.”
